Global paper consumption exceeds 400 million tons per year, with an average of 55 kilograms per person, and in North America, this average is four times higher. This research seeks to identify the factors that will contribute to reducing paper use in the administrative processes of research work. To identify the factors that influence the efficient use of paper during these academic processes. The research was conducted at the Professional School of Secondary Education of the Universidad Nacional del Altiplano de Puno, Peru, between April and December 2023, with a descriptive-explanatory cross-sectional design. A total of 124 tenth semester students and 371 graduates who were in the process of presenting and supporting their research projects and reports to obtain a degree in education participated in the study. Multiple linear regression analysis (R² = 0.540) identified three key factors that significantly influence efficient paper use: digital skills, thesis publication requirements, and ease of making corrections. These findings underscore the importance of the digital environment and sustainable practices in optimizing paper consumption. The results of this research underline the importance of improving technological competencies in the educational environment to optimize the use of paper, suggesting that institutions should integrate digital tools and train in software that facilitates efficient document management. In addition, revising thesis publication requirements and simplifying proofreading processes could reduce paper consumption and improve academic quality.
