Abstract

Value creation in industry in developed countries is being driven by the fourth stage of industrialization, called Industry 4.0. The opportunities for the industry are limitless, but the challenges are numerous, creating difficulties for companies in the adoption of these technologies. This article, in addition to a review of the literature on the evolution of recent technologies and their applicability, intends to define the main measures of regional attractiveness as factors of growth, supporting the leaders in their decisions of attraction of companies that persecute the industry 4.0. For this purpose, we present the results of fourteen interviews to the main managers of companies in the Dão-Lafões region (Portugal) who already have and/or have the ability or aptitude to use the new technologies in their industries. The results show that the companies have already made some investment in technologies of the industry 4.0, essentially at the level of the productive process, tending to cover different areas.
