Ecological, social and economic considerations on the management of native forests in the Amazon

This technical note addresses some ecological, social and economic considerations on the management of native forests in the Amazon. It is argued on the basis of theory and empirical evidence, that the management of native forests, as has been happening in the western region of Pará state, by way of forestry grants proposed by the state government, has different restrictions on the promotion of local and territorial development between the riverine communities of the locality. These restrictions may include multiple aspects, including ecological, social and economic aspects. The main objective of this technical note is to present and discuss these restrictions.
