Abstract

This article aims to discuss the theoretical and interventional possibilities of psychology for people with disabilities. Using the literature review methodology, the article describes the historical trajectory of people with disabilities in various human civilizations and in Brazilian territory, highlighting the discriminatory and integrative processes experienced throughout history by this group of individuals. The definitions of capacitation, as well as its forms of expression in reality, are also announced in the article, with the aim of expanding the ethical and political possibilities in the various practices aimed at people with disabilities. This article enables the enhancement of a psychology aligned with Human Rights and the Psychologist's Code of Professional Ethics, as well as the stimulation of a practice that promotes autonomy and questions about the human condition and its diversity.
