Abstract

The mesiodens is a type of hyperdontia, with no defined etiology, that occurs in the dental arch near the midline of the face, which can cause aesthetic and clinical alterations if not detected and treated early. In this study, we address the treatment of this condition, as well as the prevalence and clinical implications of the mesiodens. The aim of this study is to report a case of surgical extraction of an impacted and asymptomatic mesiodens in the palate, diagnosed by tomographic findings during the evaluation of a mandibular tooth, emphasizing the relevance of multidisciplinary approach and the use of advanced technologies in contemporary dental practice. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) allowed for a detailed evaluation of the supernumerary tooth's position and its relationship with adjacent structures, leading to the decision of surgical extraction to prevent future complications. The accuracy of the three-dimensional diagnosis allowed for precise planning and effective extraction, highlighting the importance of early detection and proper management of dental anomalies to ensure patient well-being. Thus, illustrating the importance of integrating advanced technologies in dental practice and continuous updating to guarantee satisfactory clinical outcomes.
