Abstract

The objective of this work was to analyze the brazilian literature in relation to the oral health conditions of female prisoners. The research of scientific publications was carried out in the databases: Lilacs, SciELO and the Capes Portal, with 11 texts selected for analysis. It was found that in Brazil the National Health Plan in the Penitentiary System (PNSSP) was instituted, which sought to affect the access of the prison population to health actions and services, expanding the care strategies for women. The PNSSP aims to reduce the oral health problems of the prison population through actions to promote, prevent and recover masticatory functions. One study pointed out that there is an important distinction in the realization of the minimum protocol for the health diagnosis provided for the PNSSP. Other studies also report that health care in prisons is precarious, and when it comes to oral health, assistance can be reduced to tooth extractions. This review pointed to a low production on this theme, with the few existing texts showing a distance between the theory of politics and the practice experienced by these women.
