Abstract

Objectives: Due to the occurrence of foreign bodies in the sinus cavities, the present work aims to relate a clinical case of foreign body removal in the maxillary sinus, accidentally enabled after dental surgical procedure of tooth extraction. Case Report: Male patient, leucoderma, 25 years old, underwent tooth extraction 26, with accidental introduction of surgical carbide drill 702 for high rotation without left maxillary sinus. After anamnesis, physical examination and evaluation of imaging tests, a panoramic radiograph revealed the presence of a foreign body in the left maxillary sinus, close to the orbital site. On tomographic examination, it was possible to observe its precise location, in the medial region of the maxillary sinus, close to the ostium and the middle turbinate of the nasal fossa. The surgical approach for removal of the foreign body was performed under local anesthesia on an outpatient basis, with a trapezoidal mucoperiosteal flap and osteotomy on the maxillary sinus lateral wall to access Caldwell Luc, proceeding with the location of the drill and removal of it, followed by irrigation with serum physiological 0.9%, hemostasis and suture. Final Considerations: The patient presented a good evolution, without complications during the follow-up period.
