Abstract

The dental treatment in patients with microcephaly syndrome by Zika Virus infection is a complex procedure
and limited by the absence of protocols of care. The description of congenital microcephaly by Zika Virus
infection, allows the knowledge and understanding of this pathology for a better and more effective therapy.
It is necessary to identify its history, epidemiology, transmission, treatment, prevention, diagnosis and
screening, the vertical transmission, its consequences: Congenital Microcephaly Syndrome by Zika Virus
infection, and elucidate the intervention of the dentist. The present work proposes to undertake a literature
review based on published works between 2014 and 2019, by database: BVS, ECDC, Lilacs, PubMed and
Scielo. Bad neural structures and bad cranial formations caused by the vertical infection of the Zika Virus
can be noticed, acquired by mother-to child during pregnancy. Due to the virus tropism for neural stem cells,
occurs alterations in the neuronal differentiation, resulting in microcephaly, anatomical changes in the
Stomatognathic system, muscle tone changed, interfering in the dynamics of suction, swallowing and lips as
well as in mouth breathing. Dental complications include periodontal disease, tooth decay, malocclusion,
micrognathia, delayed tooth eruption, dysphagia, awake tightening and dental trauma.
