Abstract

Medicines are pharmaceutical products technically obtained or prepared for prophylactic, curative, palliative or diagnostic purposes. After the expiration date, drugs must be discarded and disposed of correctly to avoid problems related to intoxication, misuse or without indication, lack of effectiveness, adverse reactions and environmental pollution. ANVISA, since the creation of the National Solid Waste Policy in 2010, has been discussing and evaluating how to implement reverse logistics in the medicine production chain. In this context, this work aims to raise data about the disposal of chemical waste, separated by pharmaceutical forms, from the School Pharmacy of the Evangelical University of Goiás (UniEvangélica). This is a quantitative and descriptive research, carried out through the counting of medicines collected at the School Pharmacy of the Evangelical University of Goiás. The work was carried out between the months of August and September 2021. As a result, it was observed that a large part of the population does not have knowledge regarding the procedures and proper conduct for the disposal of such products and regarding the impact that improper disposal can generate to the environment and to human beings. Although a small part of the population demonstrate knowledge about the consequences of improper disposal, there is still little disseminated information on the subject by the competent inspection bodies in relation to disposal. Therefore, it is concluded that despite the existing regulations on the disposal of medications in Brazil, it is possible to observe that the subject is still not treated effectively, which contributes to the human being to make these medications increasingly available in the environment and , consequently, causing environmental and public health impacts.
