Abstract

The consumption of transgenic foods is widely carried out due to the use of crops such as corn and soy, which are commercialized in the form of genetically modified organisms. Thus, students of Biological Sciences constantly insert such products in their food, even if unconsciously. The objective of this study was to evaluate the consumption of transgenic foods and the perceptions presented by Biological Sciences students. A qualitative and quantitative research was carried out with 90 students of a Biological Sciences course at a public university in the interior of the state of Ceará, carrying out data collection through the application of a questionnaire. It was identified that students carry out such consumption, highlighting some for not knowing if they are, or not, present in their food. This is observed both for agricultural crops themselves and for products derived from them. It is concluded with this study that a greater depth on the subject is necessary, since in addition to being a controversial topic, it is directly applied to the lives of students.
